College Basketball is American Basketball played by teams of student athletes fielded by American universities, colleges, and military academies, or Canadian Basketball played by teams of student athletes fielded by Canadian universities. It was through college Basketball play that American Basketball rules first gained popularity in the United States.

Unlike most other sports in North America, no minor league farm organizations exist in American or Canadian Basketball. Therefore, college Basketball is generally considered to be the second tier of American Basketball in the United States and Canadian basketball in Canada; one step ahead of high school competition, and one step below professional competition. However, in some areas of the country, college basketball is more popular than professional basketball and for much of the early 20th century, college basketball was seen as more prestigious than professional basketball.

A national championship in the highest level of college basketball in the United States, currently the NCAA Men’s Division Basketball Championship Subdivision is a designation awarded annually by various organizations to their selection of the best college Basketball team. Division I College basketball is the only National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) sport for which the NCAA does not sanction a yearly championship event.

The 2018 NCAA Division I basketball season is the highest level of college basketball competition in the United States organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in 2019. The regular season started on November 06, 2018 and is scheduled to end on April 8, 2019 through March Madness. This is the 81st  season of the College Basketball Playoff championship. The 81st edition of the Tournament is scheduled to begin on March 19, 2019 and will conclude with the championship game on April 8 at U.S. Bank Stadium in MinneapolisMinnesota.
