The Milwaukee Brewers and the Los Angeles Dodgers will get back to MLB business in NLCS Game 3 from Dodger Stadium on Monday.
Milwaukee took a dramatic Game 1 victory on Friday, nearly-blowing a 5-1 lead to eke out a 6-5 victory. In Game 2 Saturday LA was down 3-0 in the seventh inning but stormed back in the next two frames for an exciting 4-3 win.
For Monday’s Game 3, the Brewers will be sending out Jhoulys Chacin for the start. In the regular season this year, Chacin put up 192.2 innings with a 15-8 record and a 3.50 ERA.
Heading into the weekend, Ryan Braun led the Brew Crew in postseason offense with six hits, a run and an RBI. In Saturday’s Game 2, Braun was 0-for-4 with an RBI.
Over on the Dodgers’ side, they’re rolling with Walker Buehler in the start Monday. This year, Buehler went 137.1 innings in the regular season with an 8-5 record and a 2.62 ERA.
Manny Machado has been quite productive for the Dodgers this postseason, as he came into Game 2 on five hits, three homers, nine RBI and three runs. On Saturday, Machado had a hit and a run.
The Brewers are 13-3 in the last 16 road games and 13-3 in their last 16 Monday games. Milwaukee is 6-1 in Chacin’s last seven road starts and 4-0 in his last four starts.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers are 4-0 in their last four Monday games and 5-0 in their last five home games. LA is 4-1 in Buehler’s last five home starts and 37-16 in the last 53 following an off day.
This may end up being something of a weird game for Milwaukee’s “bullpen guy” pitching strategy, as Chacin is the closest thing to an extended starter that they’ve got. In five innings of three-hit ball against the Rockies, Chacin was stellar in Game 2 of the NLDS.
As for Buehler, he gave up five runs to the Braves in the NLDS Game 3, but really only had one bad inning featuring a grand slam and three walks.
It’s tough telling what the Brewers pitchers are going to do on a game-to-game basis, but it’s pretty safe to assume Chacin will stay in there for a while so long as he doesn’t implode. I like Milwaukee to ride that to a Game 3 road win.
