The Milwaukee Brewers and Los Angeles Dodgers meet Tuesday in game 4 of the NLCS at Dodger Stadium.
The Milwaukee Brewers have a chance to take a surprising 3-1 series lead with another road victory. The Brewers produced their third shutout in their last five games in their game three victory, as the Dodgers went 0-10 with runners in scoring position and struck out 14 times. The Milwaukee Brewers made the postseason based off their pitching, and they’ve done a wonderful job up to this point of playing to their identity and giving themselves a chance to win every game. Ryan Braun leads the Brewers with seven hits and three RBI while Travis Shaw and Mike Moustakas have combined for 13 hits and four RBI. Gio Gonzalez gets the ball, and he is 10-11 with a 4.21 ERA and 148 strikeouts this season. Corbin is 4-1 with a 1.89 ERA and 39 strikeouts in his career against the Dodgers. Gonzalez is 0-0 with a 4.76 ERA and 27 strikeouts in his postseason career.
The Los Angeles Dodgers need a victory here in order to have a realistic shot of winning this series. The Dodgers struggles with runners on base was an issue for much of the regular season and hurt them in game three. The Dodgers do a solid job of getting guys on base most of the time, but there’s a lot of struggles when it comes to getting that clutch base hit to drive guys home. The Los Angeles Dodgers are pretty much in a do or die situation Tuesday night. Manny Machado leads the Dodgers with eight hits and nine RBI while Justin Turner and Joc Pederson have combined for 14 hits and four RBI. Rich Hill gets the ball, and he is 11-5 with a 3.66 ERA and 150 strikeouts this season. Hill is 3-1 with a 3.35 ERA and 56 strikeouts in his career against the Brewers. Hill is 1-2 with a 3.55 ERA and 49 strikeouts in his postseason career.
The Brewers are 13-3 in their last 16 road games, 19-9 in their last 28 Tuesday games and 35-17 in their last 52 overall. The Dodgers are 8-2 in their last 10 playoff home games, 5-1 in Hills last 6 home starts and 6-0 in Hills last 6 starts. The under is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings in Los Angeles.
Gonzalez is an experienced pitcher who has allowed just four runs in his last 17 innings and is going to give the Brewers a chance to get into their bullpen and win this game. Gonzalez isn’t the pitcher with the best stuff in the world, but he has yet to have a poor performance since coming over from Washington and is the perfect guy to go with for a chance to control this series. Hill had control issues in his postseason performance against the Atlanta Braves, and now he’s at home where he had an ERA of 3.69 and an allowed batting average of .246, numbers that are worse than his road splits. Current Brewers are also hitting .293 against Hill in 75 at bats. For the price you’re likely going to get with the Brewers here, it’s probably worth backing them, especially with the way the Dodgers choked again with runners on base.
