Live Updates Lions vs. Raiders preseason week-1: How to watch

The Detroit Lions and Oakland Raiders are set to square off in the first game of the NFL preseason for each side, and there’s plenty to look forward to after a week of hard-hitting practice against one another out in Napa. Both teams have been amongst the most newsworthy squads in the offseason, making some dramatic moves to capture the attention of the national media at various points, which makes this first game the sides will play downright intriguing.

This offseason, there have been plenty of notable moves for the Lions, who signed linebacker Devon Kennard, cornerback DeShawn Shead and running back LeGarrette Blount as some of their bigger moves early on during the period. In the draft, they snagged Frank Ragnow to anchor their offensive front and Kerryon Johnson to be their runner of the future. Perhaps the biggest move the team has made on the whole, though, was getting Matt Patricia to sign on as head coach. That’s been something which has brought new excitement and a breath of fresh air to the organization after a tough finish to 2017.

Arguably, there’s been no more exciting time to be a Lions fan than right now, as the team tries to transition itself into a contender with new leadership that has a clear championship pedigree.

As for the Raiders, what’s old is new again, as they were able to lure Jon Gruden back out of the broadcast booth to coach the team once again and return to his roots. Combined with the prior comeback of Marshawn Lynch in 2017, the Raiders were able to lure Jordy Nelson to the Silver and Black, and while many might have been critical of their early selections in the draft, the team did end up with P.J. Hall, Arden Key and Maurice Hurst, guys who could end up playing a big role for the team’s re-made defense. They also ended up with Martavis Bryant to help out the passing game and former Lions linebacker Tahir Whitehead to further assist the defense.

Now, the Lions and Raiders will each put their work off the field to the test when the games once again get going, and it will be an exciting time for fans of both sides to see what type of progress has been made while kicking off a new era. This is the first time the Lions and Raiders have met on the field since the 2015 season, a November win by Detroit at Ford Field.
