The NHL gives us the Washington Capitals hosting the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday.
The Vegas Golden Knights are hoping for another hot start to the season but are 1-2 after dropping a 4-2 decision at Buffalo on Monday night. The Golden Knights received a second period goal from Erik Haula with Jonathan Marchessault scoring in the third while Marc-Andre Fleury gave up all four goals on 17 shots.
Buffalo saw Jack Eichel power the offense with a pair of goals with Marco Scandella and Jason Pominville also lighting the lamp. Kyle Okposo added a pair of helpers and Carter Hutton got the win for the Sabres with a 37 save performance.
The Washington Capitals offense has been unstoppable with 13 goals through two games but unfortunately their defense was a no show in a 7-6, overtime defeat at Pittsburgh. Jake Guentzel scored twice for Pittsburgh with Jamie Oleksiak, Kris Letang and Derick Brassard lighting the lamp before Evgeni Malkin tallied in OT for his second goal of the game. Matt Murray got the win for the Penguins despite allowing six goals on 36 shots.
TJ Oshie paced the Capitals offensive explosion with a pair of goals with Jakub Vrana, Brooks Orpik, Alex Ovechkin and John Carlson also lighting the lamp.
Golden Knights are 0-5 in their last 5 vs. Metropolitan and Golden Knights are 0-6 in their last 6 vs. Eastern Conference and over is 4-0 in Golden Knights last 4 vs. Eastern Conference. Over is 4-0 in Capitals last 4 overall and Capitals are 4-0 in their last 4 vs. Pacific and Capitals are 4-0 in their last 4 vs. Western Conference. Golden Knights are 0-4 in the last 4 meetings.
Neither squad has played enough to label them but Washington seems to be able to score in the early going and Vegas has struggled to score thus far…
