Calgary Flames (1-1-0) at Nashville Predators (2-0-0)
NHL Hockey: Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at 8:00 pm (Bridgestone Arena)
The Line: Nashville Predators -175 / Calgary Flames +151 — Over/Under: 6
The Nashville Predators look to stay undefeated as they play in their home opener on Tuesday night as they host the Calgary Flames in the Music City.
The Flames look for their first road victory of the season as they travel to Nashville to take on a Predators side who has won both of their games so far this season and looks like a group capable of getting back to the Western Conference final. Calgary has aspirations to get back to the playoffs as well after a disappointing season last year and they added some key pieces in their pursuit as they brought in James Neal and Noah Hanafin which adds some fire power to a group that already includes Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau. Calgary split their home and home set with the Canucks to start the season but face their toughest task thus far against a Preds side who has lights out at home a season ago.
The Predators head into Tuesday’s game with a 48-22 record in their last 70 games on home ice and have been particularly dominant against the Pacific division with a 25-9 record in their last 34 contests. Nashville has the makeup of going on a deep playoff run once again as their blue line is among the league’s best and their offense has some game breakers that may not be near the top of the league scoring mark but are serviceable and play a complete game. Nashville also has the reigning Vezina Trophy winner in Pekka Rinne who was recognized as the league’s top goaltender a season ago and will be hoping for a repeat performance in the Nashville crease again this season.
The Flames are winless in their last six road games dating back to last season and are 3-9 in their last 12 against the Western Conference while the Preds are a measly 1-6 in their last seven meetings at home against Calgary and have gone over in eight of their last 10 at home. Calgary is a team capable of making the playoffs as well and are getting a ton of value in this spot but they haven’t looked great so far and while Nashville’s record against Calgary isn’t great they get one back in this spot on Tuesday.
